My favorite book of all time is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. When I first read it, it was as if Tolstoy knew me and created Anna from that knowledge. I relate to her so much. Besides being visceral in emotions and tragedy, it’s also a novel that’s layered with sociopolitical commentary. It’s this multifaceted aspect of it that makes it so hard to translate onto the screen — though I’ll admit I’ve watched Kiera Knightly’ version over a dozen times.
